Dark Crystal Creature Challenge

My entry for the Dark Crystal Creature Challenge: Nimhe, a Spriton Gelfling. Finished just in time, she stands about 3 feet tall. Looking forward to doing some more details on hair and costume now that the pressure of the deadline is over. 2 pics near the bottom show an alternate red wig. Will post more pics after she's been updated. Hope Wendy Froud likes her  :-)

Molly, A Sprite

Finished just in time for St. Patrick's day...this little sprite I named Molly as Molly our cat took a very special interest in her. So, I promised this doll would be for her. I still have a few more touches I might add. I need to glaze her eyes and I'm thinking about re-doing her feet (not pictured). I re-did them twice already, but they just don't seem very spritely yet. She'll be dancing in no time. :-)

I got Wendy Froud's second DVD  - Creating a Character Figure -  for Valentine's day (my request!), so was very inspired. I had already completed the face sculpt but it was great for improving my hand sculpting, hair, paint and clothing. I'm looking forward to doing a new face sculpt after reviewing the techniques from the video.

This is the first doll I've tried doing freckles on. I think they came out o.k. when you look at her in person, but it's hard to see them in the pictures.

Puppet Building 101!

Another class I was taking, Puppet Building 101, just ended and I completed my first puppet! For four weeks, instructor Jonathan Little (of Little's Creatures) led us on a fun and amazing journey into puppets. Everyone made their own puppet based off of the same template that he provided (lots of sewing :-) - but with different colored fur and accessories to work with, each finished character was as unique as their maker. Here's my little guy...calling him Muppy for now. :-)

Looking forward to the next class where we get to practice making them come to life!

Happy Valentine's Day from Muppy!

Sculpture Class: Relief

I've been taking a sculpture class in town for fun and to explore different ways of working in clay.

Last week, we did reliefs. Here is my 'sketch' and the finished relief. I'm enjoying working with water based clay :-)

Fairy Godmother

The Fairy Godmother is an old sculpt that I have finally completed.

I have a few more completed dolls that haven't been posted yet.Working on creating separate pages for each completed work.

For now, my art doll gallery page houses all of my old WIPs and completed works. Hope to update soon!

The Fairy Godmother cradles your dreams in a heart of compassion and light, gently encouraging them to soar. Together with the hard work and steadfastness of the dreamer, hopes and creative inspirations are ferried from the realm of the possible to the real.
